Twenty years of helping children land softly in a loving Christian home has blessed me with many memories.
Memories, both good and bad, were all illuminated by the magnificent light of God’s love. God carried the mothers facing uncertain times and decisions for their babies and the families walking in faith to help a child. It was not an easy road for anyone, yet the sincere prayers offered by Christians all across the world for these mothers and families helped smooth that rough road.
I remember when I was 6 years old, a family from church went to California and came home with a baby! My world was rocked! You mean you can just go on vacation and come home with a baby? I immediately asked my parents, “Can we go to California and get a baby?”
I was told over and over throughout my life that adoption was not that easy, and I was often discouraged. If anyone said they knew someone who was adopted, I had a million questions for them.
The support of orphans’ homes by the church had been debated, and even as a child I would ask, “Why don’t we help the orphans by bringing them into our homes?” I was quickly told…
“Oh, you can’t adopt the orphans. Too complicated. The state won’t let you.”
Well yes, adoption is complicated, messy, expensive, trying, exasperating, frightening — I could go on and on. But adoption is also loving, exhilarating, humbling, precious, faith-building, and healing, just to name a few.
God paved the way for Sacred Selections to exist.
None of these adoptions would have been possible without God and the prayer, love, and support of Christians around the world.
It thrills me personally to see and hear about the Sacred Selections children as they journey through life.
The other day, I received a picture of a friend who teaches a little first-grade boy who was adopted with Sacred Selections’ help.
He saw the teacher’s thermal cup with the Sacred Selections logo on it and, while pointing to the cup, said,
“I was born in Sacred Selections.”
What a profound and beautiful way to describe his adoption into his family. The teacher sent me a picture of the three: teacher, Sacred Selections child, and the thermos.

The little boy was glowing…you could see the pride in his eyes as he told his teacher that he was a very real part of Sacred Selections.
I pray that hundreds more children can say,
“I was born in Sacred Selections.”
