Johnny Nicholas “Nicky” Broomas, age 71, passed away May 8, 2025 surrounded by family at his home in Willis, TX. He spent his life in service to His Lord and died with the hope of heaven.
Nicky was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on December 6, 1953 to John Spiro Broomas and Frances Evelyn Crossno Broomas. They moved to South Houston a few months later where they raised their family and attended South Houston church of Christ before moving to Liberty while Nicky was in high school.
After graduating from Liberty High School in 1972, Nicky eventually moved to Yoakum, Texas where he met Judy Anthony. They married and raised their family in Yoakum. Nicky spent years as an active member of the Yoakum Little League where he coached his son, umpired, and served on the board. Nicky provided for his family by being a carpenter, where he specialized in custom cabinetry and portable buildings. After years of carpentry, he took a job with the Texas Department of Criminal Justice where he worked in various capacities for over 20 years. His career led him to Huntsville, where he retired in 2018.
Nicky and Judy were longtime members at the Yoakum church of Christ where they raised their family, and he served as a deacon. He was an excellent song leader. After their move to Willis, they were active members at Woodland Hills church of Christ in Conroe, where Nicky served as an elder.
Nicky was a man of many hobbies. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, golf, bowling, dominoes, family game nights, and was an avid Arkansas Razorback fan. His grandchildren have many wonderful memories of family game nights where their Papa was the life of the party.
Nicky was preceded in death by his parents, John & Frances Broomas; his brother, Stanley Broomas; and his sister, Sherry Tanton.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Judy; daughter Nicole Watson and her husband, David, of Bryan, TX; son Jason Broomas and his wife Kelsea of Winnie, TX; three grandchildren – Tanner Watson, Allie Watson, and Kendi Broomas; brother Mark Broomas; sister Lauri Harrison and her husband Albert; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Cashner Funeral Home on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. until services begin on Saturday, May 17th. Graveside services will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Yoakum, Texas at 3:00 p.m.
