LM Training Her Boys

“We are raising the boys to be in the kitchen, cooking and cleaning, to take care of the home we all live in together, to work as a family team, to serve. They love to cook meals for our family and now serve in the cleanup mostly without hesitation or question. It wasn’t without its difficult moments as this was taught and modeled, but in the end, the hope is raising servant-leaders with willing and compassionate hearts.

Kids are capable, and we do a disservice to them in the long run if we do not include them in the chores and ins and outs of the day to day functioning for the home.”

From a wonderful Sacred Selections mother.

I happened onto this post this week. It stopped me in my mental tracks. My first reply to this remarkable mother was, “Somewhere, sometime, some wife will call you “blessed.”

It was sincere, but also a bit of forward-looking humor. On second thought a deeper and much more serious idea struck me, I replied again, “You know, I don’t think there is one more important thing our country needs right now, than what you’re doing. Period.”

Nothing is more foundational or significant to the health and well being of any individual, community, nation, or culture, than a good and loving home.

Consider a few examples from the Word.

  1. Malachi 2:15 “But did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one?
    He seeks godly offspring.”
The home is the social structure on which the next generation comes to know God. Can you think of any other place or relationship that is fundamentally better?
  2. “19 You shall teach them to your children, speaking of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 20 And you shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates, 21 that your days and the days of your children may be multiplied in the land of which the Lord swore to your fathers to give them, like the days of the heavens above the earth.” Deuteronomy 11:19-21
  3. 17 And the Lord said, “Shall I hide from Abraham what I am doing, 18 since Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? 19 For I have known him, in order that he may command his children and his household after him, that they keep the way of the Lord, to do righteousness and justice, that the Lord may bring to Abraham what He has spoken to him.”  Genesis 18:17-19
  4. “4 And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord.” Ephesians 6:4

For decades now there has been an attack on marriage, the home and by extension our children. All the “wise” of this world mock and degrade the daily labors of love that take place in the home. We have sown the wind…

26 For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called. 27 But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; 1 Corinthians 1:26-27

Remember, pray for, and honor these good and Godly women.
