Karen Merle Baker Hipp, 79, of Bandera County, passed away on August 26, 2024.
Karen was born on April 23, 1945 to William Troy Baker and Jessie Louise Scoggin in Uvalde, Texas. After Karen graduated from Uvalde High School in 1963, she went on to graduate from Southwest Texas State University with a degree in Education.
After graduation, she started her career with Northside Independent School District in 1967 where she worked at Lock Hill Elementary School and Boone Elementary School for 33 years.
In 1963, Karen met Sidney Elwyn Hipp at Getty Street Church of Christ. They were married on December 18, 1965, and they went on to have two children, David Elwyn Hipp and Traci Camille Hipp. They have 5 grandchildren: Steven Lane Hipp, Nathan David Hipp, Mikaela Nicole Hipp, Robert James Parker, and Kalli Noelle Parker.
In 2000, Karen retired and spent her time enjoying travel, photography, sewing, crafting, reading, and spoiling her family. Sidney and Karen have traveled to all 50 states along with Mexico, Canada, Costa Rica, Australia, New Zealand, and Jamaica.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, William Troy Baker and Jessie Louise Scoggin Baker, and grandparents, Joseph Raymond Baker, Cordia Ola Bryce Baker, Jesse Edwin Scoggin, and Martha Jewel Hallmark Scoggin, and brothers-in-law Hubert Erwin Robertson and Charles Malcolm Hipp
Karen is survived by her husband Sidney; son David and wife Laura Michelle Dimond Hipp; daughter Traci and husband Philip Noel Parker; five grandchildren; brother Kenneth Aubrey Baker and wife Clydell Jayne Koenig Baker; sister Kathy Camille Baker Robertson; brother-in-law James Warren Hipp; sister-in-law Martha Ann Hipp Vesper; sister-in-law Susan Louise Hipp Thumm; sister-in-law Shirley Nell Kimbro Hipp; nephews, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and honorary grandchildren Larissa Gribble Malita, Jacob Gribble, and Justin Gribble.
