Otto Eugene Spieth, age 82, while surrounded by family and dear friends, peacefully “graduated” from his life here on earth, and was reunited with his treasured wife as he entered into his Heavenly life eternal on May 29, 2025. The son of Otto Carl Spieth and Etta May Spieth, Otto was born September 13, 1942 in Bremerton, Washington and it was there he resided until his death.
A 1960 graduate of West High School and later Olympic College, Otto began working at Boeing, where he worked for two years. Next, he entered the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Apprentice program, where he started what would become his full time career for the next 32 years; retiring in 1997 as an Electronics Mechanic Supervisor. A few years after his retirement, he returned to the workforce, where he devoted 16 years to driving for the Meals on Wheels Kitsap senior meals service, delivering meals and sharing his time with seniors in his community. In addition, Otto served his country as a Reservist in the Army National Guard for 6 years, until his honorable discharge in 1971.
In 1964, Otto married the love of his life, Anne (née Stafford) Spieth, who he affectionately referred to as “Wife.” Through the course of their 55 year marriage, Otto was a dedicated provider, father, and caregiver. Together with Anne, he raised three daughters in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, in word and by example. When Anne was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease, Otto left the workforce for good to patiently and lovingly care for her, enabling her to live out her days at home with her ‘Hubby.’ When grandchildren came, he enthusiastically embraced the role of ‘Grandpa/Poppa’. He was blessed to also wear the title ‘Great Grandpa’ as his great grandchildren entered the world. Otto was loved and adored across the generations.
Anyone who knew Otto, or even just spoke to him for a few minutes, knew of his love for the Lord- and they likely were invited to worship with him at the Bremerton church of Christ. “You can sit with me!” he’d say. Otto was baptized for the remission of sins and became a Christian in 1980, and in 1998 went on to serve as an Elder. He served the church in this capacity until Anne departed this life in 2019. He looked forward to the day he would shed his earthly body and gain his Heavenly body- he would excitedly tell everyone that he couldn’t wait to “graduate”- explaining that Heaven was the place to which he was bound, and he was so ready to be there. He loved his extended family and his church family, and they reciprocally loved and cared for him- many held his hand and personally bid him farewell in his final days.
Otto loved to hunt, fish and garden, and for years was an Amateur (HAM) Radio operator. He, along with his cherished next-door neighbor, established his neighborhood’s Crime Watch. He ardently loved his hometown, and actively communicated with his city leaders in an effort to share his ideas of ways to improve the city and its programs. He was a leader in every way.
In addition to his parents and his wife, preceding Otto in death was his brother Gary Bangart, and sister Nadine Bruns. He is survived by his sister Ethel (Claude) Green, daughters Kelli Spieth, Dawn (Clay) Fires, and Tracy (Glen) Gray; grandchildren Lance (Kendra) Fires, Morgan Fires, Madison Fires, and Molleigh (Austin) Arrowood; great-grandchildren Natalie, Eli, and Savannah; and a host of beloved nieces and nephews.
We all miss him terribly, but know that he is now right where he wanted and worked to be.
A service to honor Otto’s memory will be held at Lewis Funeral Chapel in Bremerton, Washington on Saturday June 21, 2025 at 1:00pm with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Otto’s memory to either the aforementioned Meals on Wheels Kitsap http://www.mealsonwheelskitsap.org/donate.html, or Sacred Selections https://sacredselections.org/support/ which provides funding for Christian adoptions. Both of these organizations had deep and meaningful impacts on his life.
