Dorothy Sauter

Mrs. Dorothy Clara Hirschman Sauter, age 90, of Vestavia Hills, passed away Monday morning, August 2, 2021, at her son’s home in Arkadelphia, AL.

She was born December 1,1930, in Rochester, NY a daughter of the late Wilmer and Clara Hirschman.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, George Sauter Jr. Brothers Robert Hirschman, Donald Hirschman, Earl Hirschman.

She was a member of Mountain Chapel Methodist. She retired from a career at Kodak in Rochester, NY after 35 years. After retirement, Dorothy and George moved to Birmingham, AL.Dorothy lived next door to her only son, George and his family for 37 years, in Vestavia Hills, AL. She spent the last 9 months of her life living with her son and daughter-in-law at the home they built in Arkadelphia, AL. She enjoyed traveling, baking, hosting gatherings, keeping her mind active and spending time with her family.

Dorothy is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, George Sauter III and Vanessa Sauter of Arkadelphia, AL, grand-daughters, Elizabeth Bailey and husband Jonathan of Birmingham, Kathryn Baggett and husband Andrew of Arkadelphia, AL; 5 great grandchildren, Savannah and Sarah Beth Bailey, Rebecca, Lyla, and James Baggett; and one sister, Irene Brown and husband Bill of Allentown, PA. 

Dorothy was known for her contagious smile, wit, and stories she shared with family and friends.

The family will hold a private memorial gathering Saturday, August 7, 2021.
